The Craft Behind Every Artiviesta Lamp: Wood, Laser, and Light
From FSC Grade BB/BB birch selection to 0.1mm laser kerf precision, multi-grit manual sanding, and non-toxic Danish oil finishing — the complete making journey.

1. Material Integrity: Sustainable FSC Baltic Birch
Every luminaire begins with the tree. We exclusively source FSC-certified Grade BB/BB Baltic birch plywood harvested from responsibly managed European forests. Baltic birch is prized in high-end acoustic and furniture design for its multi-ply cross-banded veneers, which eliminate warping under ambient indoor humidity changes.
Unlike composite MDF or particleboard, Baltic birch is free from synthetic voids, producing crisp, dark edge grain when kissed by a laser beam. The outer face veneers display subtle golden grain ripples that catch the light like silk.
“When you work with genuine wood, you are collaborating with the tree’s life history. No two lamps carry the identical grain pattern.”
2. Precision Optical Laser Joinery & Zero Adhesive Fit
Our designs are vectored at 0.1 millimetre tolerances. An optical CO2 laser cuts through the birch layers with micro-metric precision, creating intricate fretwork that would be virtually impossible with traditional scroll saws.
The components are engineered with interlocking tenons and friction mortises. This precision interlocking architecture creates rigid structural integrity without excessive toxic chemical adhesives, ensuring the lamp remains clean, odourless, and safe for indoor living spaces.
3. Hand-Sanding, Deburring, and Non-Toxic Finishing
Laser cutting is merely the first step; true luxury lies in the hand-finishing. Each component is manually inspected by Marko Miholić, deburred of surface soot, and hand-sanded across progressive grits (180, 240, and 320) until the timber feels velvety smooth.
We apply a protective coat of plant-based natural sealant that deepens the amber resonance of the wood grain without emitting volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The final piece is assembled by hand, fitted with high-efficiency 2200K warm white diodes, and tested for 24 hours in our darkroom.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where are Artiviesta lamps manufactured?
Direct Answer: Every Artiviesta luminaire is designed, laser-cut, hand-sanded, and wired by artisan Marko Miholić at the Artiviesta studio in London, United Kingdom.
How do I clean and maintain my wooden lamp?
Direct Answer: Dust gently with a soft dry microfibre cloth or dry lens brush. Never use chemical aerosol sprays or saturated damp cloths. A tiny dab of natural mineral or beeswax oil once a year will keep the birch grain luminous.
Can the LED diode inside be replaced?
Direct Answer: The integrated warm white diodes have an operational lifespan of 50,000+ hours (over 11 years at 12 hours/day). In the unlikely event of component failure, our modular design allows for straightforward wire servicing via our London studio.
