# The Craft Behind Every Artiviesta Lamp: Wood, Laser, and Light
> Every lamp starts as a sheet of real wood and ends up as a little lit picture. Here is the making journey, from the wood selection to the final check.
Every Artiviesta lamp starts as a sheet of real wood and ends up as a little lit picture. In between sit three parts of the work we do in our London studio: choosing good wood, cutting the design precisely, and finishing it by hand. None of it happens on a production line.
## It starts with real wood
We use responsibly sourced natural wood, chosen for a clean, even grain. Wood is a living material, so no two sheets look the same. That is the charm of it: your lamp has its own grain and tone, even though the design matches the one beside it on the shelf.
Thin composite boards can warp or look flat. Real wood holds fine detail well and feels warm to the touch, so you can see and feel the difference once the lamp is in your hands.
> When you work with real wood, you are working with something that grew. No two lamps carry the same grain.
**Key takeaway:** **Direct Answer:** Artiviesta lamps are made from responsibly sourced natural wood because it is stable, takes fine detail well and gives every lamp a unique grain.
## Laser-cut detail, then assembled by hand
The design is cut with a laser, which is how we get clean, fine details like whiskers and feathers. The laser cuts each piece apart, and the parts then slot together to form the lamp.
The pieces are assembled by hand, never on a line. Each lamp is checked before it ships, including the fitting of the warm white LED inside.
## Hand-sanded and sealed with a non-toxic finish
After cutting, each piece is sanded by hand to soften the edges and leave the surface smooth to the touch. We then seal it with a non-toxic finish that protects the wood and deepens its colour.
Finally the warm white LED is fitted and the lamp is switched on for a check before it is wrapped. It arrives ready to use: just plug it into any standard 5V USB socket and switch it on.
**Key takeaway:** **Direct Answer:** Every Artiviesta lamp is laser-cut and assembled by hand in London, then hand-sanded and sealed with a non-toxic finish, so it is smooth, safe and built to last.
