# Real wood, warm light, made in London.

Every Artiviesta lamp starts as responsibly sourced natural wood, gets cut on a laser, then is sanded and finished by hand in Marko Miholić's London studio.

> “A lamp should be something you're glad to switch on at night. Good wood, a warm glow and a shape you enjoy looking at, that's the whole idea.”

Marko Miholić, Founder

The Fundamentals

## Four Things That Matter

### Responsibly Sourced Wood

We use responsibly sourced [natural wood](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_birch_plywood), cut with a laser and finished by hand. Because it's real wood, the grain is never identical on two lamps.

### Laser-Cut to a Design

Our London studio uses a [laser cutter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_cutting) to shape each design cleanly. The panels then fit together by hand with neat interlocking joints, so no glue is needed.

### Warm Amber Glow

A warm LED gives a soft amber glow, powered by any standard 5V USB socket. It stays cool to the touch, uses very little power, and is safe to leave on all night.

### Non-Toxic Finish

Every lamp is hand-sanded, then sealed with a non-toxic finish. It protects the wood while letting the natural grain and warm tone show through.

From Drawing to Doorstep

## How Each Lamp Is Made

STEP 01

#### The Design

It starts with a drawing. Marko sketches the design and works out how the panels will fit together, then the shapes go to the laser.

STEP 02

#### Cutting the Wood

Each panel is cut from natural wood by the laser. The beam lightly scorches the edges, which leaves a lovely warm contrast against the lighter grain.

STEP 03

#### Sanding & Sealing

The panels are hand-sanded smooth, then sealed with a non-toxic finish to protect the wood and bring out its warmth.

STEP 04

#### Fitting the Diffuser

A soft diffuser goes inside the lamp so the light spreads evenly, with no harsh glare.

STEP 05

#### Fitting the Light

The warm LED slides into place and runs from any 5V USB socket. It stays cool to the touch, so it's safe to leave on all night.

STEP 06

#### Putting It Together

The panels slot together by hand using neat interlocking joints. No glue, no screws, just the wood holding itself together.

STEP 07

#### Quality Inspection

Darkroom photometric audit for shadow acuity, followed by Marko's personal quality check before careful packaging.

## Wooden vs. Plastic: A Quick Comparison

| The Basics | Artiviesta London Atelier | Commercial Factory Lamp |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Material | Responsibly sourced natural wood | Moulded plastic |
| The Light | Warm amber glow, cool to the touch | Often a cold, harsh blue-white glare |
| How It's Built | Assembled by hand with interlocking joints | Usually glued with chemicals |
| Power | Any standard 5V USB socket | Fiddly adapters or batteries to replace |
| Lifespan | Simple, sturdy, built to last | Usually thrown away when it fails |

## How an Artiviesta lamp is made

- Design: each scene is drawn in layers, from foreground to sky.

- Cut: every layer is laser-cut from responsibly sourced natural wood.

- Finish: edges are hand-sanded and the wood is sealed with a non-toxic finish.

- Light: a warm white LED is fitted behind the layers, powered by 5V USB.

- Check: each lamp is inspected by hand, lit, before it is packed in recyclable packaging.

## Studio questions

**What wood are the lamps made from?**

Responsibly sourced natural wood, cut into thin layers. Because it is real wood, the grain differs on every lamp, so no two are identical.

**How does laser cutting work?**

A focused laser beam burns a very fine line through the wood, following the design file. It leaves a slightly darkened edge that looks lovely when lit. See our guide to how laser cutting works.

**Is the finish safe?**

Yes. Lamps are sealed with a non-toxic finish, and the LED stays cool, so they are suitable for bedrooms and children’s rooms.
